Flood Risk Assessment & Flood Evacuation Plan in Birmingham.
FloodPlan were approached and commissioned by an independent developer to provide a Flood Risk Assessment and Flood Evacuation Plan for a proposed development in Digbeth, Birmingham. The site is located within Flood Zone 3.
The site is an existing mixed use Residential-Commercial (Public House and Flats) property located within a Conservation Area. The development proposed the extension to the commercial element of the property, and the internal reconfiguration of the residential use elements of the property, to allow for increased capacity.
Floodplan contacted the Environment Agency to obtain the latest hydraulic flood modelling data available. Floodplan assessed the the flood depths, velocities, hazard ratings as well as other considerations such as the speed of flooding onset. The flood modelling identified that the site was considered to be at risk from circa 1.1m of flooding during the extreme ‘design event’.
FloodPlan produced the Flood Risk Assessment and Flood Evacuation plan using a logic and data based approach. Both documents were submitted to the Planning Authority for review. Both were accepted, and Planning Permission was granted. Floodplan saved the client £2300 compared to a comparable quotation.
